분포; 인도•서태평양/일본 중부 이남, 타이완, 필리핀, 인도네시아, 오스트렐리아, 홍해, 동아프리카에 분포. 한국에 분포한다는 설이 있으나 확인되지 않음.
일반개요; 등에서 시작된 여러 개의 검은 수직줄무늬들이 있다. 등지느러미의 기점에 전방으로 향한 작은 가시가 1개 있다. 살아있을 때 칙칙한 황회색 바탕이며 비늘마다 어두운 부분이 있어 비늘열들의 직선이 드러난다. 연안 얕은 수심(50m 이내)의 모래•개펄 바닥, 기수, 내항에 살며 저서 무척추동물을 주식한다. 산란기(봄)에는 해변 가까이 나온다. 식용이 가능하나 인기는 없다.

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific/Possibly southern Korea, south of central Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Red Sea and East Africa.
General: Body with vertical dark bands dorsally. Anterior end of dorsal fin base with antrose spine. Dusky yellowish grey ground color with a dark portion in scales that makes distinctive straight lines of scale rows. Found inshore, on sand or mud bottoms in less than 50m depth, also in estuaries and harbors. Feeds on benthic invertebrates. Breed close inshore during spring. Flesh edible, but not esteemed.
